• Club claimed they had held talks with 35-year-old’s agent
• ‘David has no interest in leaving LA Galaxy,’ says spokesman

David Beckham has “no interest” in leaving LA Galaxy and has had no contact with West Ham United, a spokesman for the former England captain said today.

Beckham became linked with a move to Upton Park after David Gold, the West Ham co-owner, said he wanted to sign the 35-year-old and claimed discussions with his agent had taken place. That, however, has been denied. A spokesman for Beckham said: “While it’s flattering to hear of interest there has been no contact with or offer from West Ham.

“David is happy at the Los Angeles Galaxy and has no interest in leaving, and is looking forward to returning to the team on 9 August.”

Beckham is still recovering from the ruptured achilles tendon that kept him out of the World Cup but believes he will be back to play some part in the remainder of the MLS season. He is back jogging and running but will have further tests with club doctors next month to determine when he should return to full training.

Beckham is hopeful he can be back in action as early as September, allowing him to make a possible return to European football in January – for the past two years he has played for Milan during the second half of the season.

• Horns contravene health and safety regulations
• Have also been banned by Arsenal and Tottenham

West Ham United have banned vuvuzelas from Upton Park because they contravene the stadium’s health and safety regulations, which already prohibit the use of musical instruments.

The plastic horns, which proved hugely controversial during the recent World Cup, have already been banned by Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal as well as by a number of Football League clubs.

“Under the current health and safety regulations at the stadium, which already disallows musical bands, we would not allow them [vuvuzelas] into the stadium as they could be considered a weapon and could also be considered to be an annoyance to others,” a West Ham statement said. “The health and safety regulation that all of this comes under is already in place.

“The club wish at all times to ensure that all supporters are allowed to enjoy the game they are watching and prides itself on the passionate, loud and robust support from our fans at all matches at Upton Park.”
