West Ham agree loan deal for Miralem Sulejmani of Ajax

• Serbian forward Miralem Sulejmani bound for West Ham
• Loan deal thought to cover the whole season

West Ham United are set to sign the Serbian forward Miralem Sulejmani after confirming that a loan deal has been agreed with Ajax.

The 21-year-old has agreed terms with and will join subject to a work permit being received. West Ham have not confirmed the length of the deal, but it is thought to be for the season.

“The club have agreed terms with Ajax and also with the Serbian international forward, but the 21-year-old’s move from Amsterdam to London is subject to a work permit hearing,” a statement read.

Ajax spent a record £13m on Sulejmani to take him to from Heerenveen in 2008. However the talented forward, who can play off a striker or on the wing, failed to deliver and was criticised for his performances throughout.

Despite once being among Serbia’s great hopes for the national team, Sulejmani missed out on a World Cup place.

Mexico striker Guillermo Franco confirms West Ham exit

• 33-year-old leaving after club decided against new contract
• Former Villarreal striker says: ‘The club told me ‘bye bye”

The Mexico striker Guillermo Franco has confirmed that he is leaving West Ham. Franco scored five goals in 21 Premier League games for West Ham but his one-year contract expires at the end of June and the club have told him they will not offer a new deal.

“The club told me ‘bye bye’, so I won’t be with West Ham next season,” said Franco.

The 33-year-old forward joined West Ham in September after he was released by the Spanish club Villarreal. Franco added that he enjoyed his time with West Ham but that he is now focused on the World Cup.

Franco scored Mexico’s goal in Monday’s 3-1 friendly defeat to England. He injured a toe in the match but expects to be fit for the tournament.

David Sullivan and David Gold increase stake in West Ham to 60%

• Co-owners pay £8m for further 10% shareholding
• ‘Our aim is to ensure our club enjoys a stable future’

West Ham’s co-owners, David Sullivan and David Gold, have today increased their stake in the club to 60%. Sullivan and Gold, who previously owned Birmingham City, bought West Ham from financially-stricken Icelandic group CB Holdings in January.

They have both increased their share of the club to 30% from 25% at a cost of £8m, with £4m going to CB Holdings and the other half to the club.

Sullivan said on the club’s website: “Myself and David Gold are, like you, West Ham United fans and our aim is to ensure our club enjoys a stable and successful future.

“To this end, we have both invested a further £4m to increase our shareholding to 30% each.”
